The Abbey is located in a rural setting surrounded now by the modern town of Farnborough. We have an
extensive area of woodland on one side of the monastery and on the other, open fields and farmland.
In recent years the monks, with the support of DEFRA and the Country Stewardship Scheme, have been
restoring the pasture land, orchards, and parkland of the Abbey. What was previously hired out to lay
people for the grazing of horses has become once again a thriving farm, orchard and apiary. This not only
has become the monastic work of a number of members of the community, but also has much improved what St
Benedict calls the ‘enclosure’ of monastery wherein our monastic life is lived. The rural oasis provided
by the monastery is of great benefit to those who come to us for spiritual retreat and rest.
