It not only punctuates our day, giving the monastic
horarium its shape and meaning, but it is our main ‘work’. We are told in the dialogues of St Gregory that
St Benedict lived on earth as though in heaven, and so our daily offering of the sacrificium laudis
- the sacrifice of praise not only allows us to live our human life to the full but gives an angelic
character to the monk. To sing the praises of God in conspectu angelorum, in the presence of the
angels, is a high calling indeed.
The liturgy holds pride of place in our life, and is always celebrated in an unhurried and solemn manner.
It is sung in Latin to Gregorian Chant in the beautiful and silent setting of our Abbey Church. The Abbey
Church is open to the public for daily Mass and offices.
