Often we overhear the following statements outside our Abbey Church:
‘The French pay for all this because Napoleon III is buried here.’
‘The Vatican pays for all this because it is a Catholic monastery.’
‘The government pays for all this because it is a historic monument.’
‘The council pays for all this because the church is a grade one listed monument.’
None of the above is true!
We depend on our hard work and the generosity of others to secure the present and the future of the Abbey. It is always challenging for a small contemplative community to support itself, especially when it has important historic buildings to maintain, and its time is limited because of the time consecrated to the Divine Office.

Legacies
Perhaps you are not in a position to help us now. Why not consider making us a gift in your will?
By leaving a gift in your will, you can continue to provide real support and encouragement for the future, yet it won’t cost you a penny in the present.
Volunteers
A lot of practical work is done in the Abbey grounds through the energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers.
If you have any available time to help and provide your expertise, please fill in the Application Form and contact us.
